You'll find a lot of different types at the Hidden Door, but really, it's a bear bar and the scene is dominated by friendly, ultra-masculine men.

Fun on Sundays
Don't know what the older crowd, drinker's bar comments are about. I go there to watch sports in the back bar a lot weekends. College football on Saturdays, baseball when its happening. Its a friendly place. Safer parking and transit than than off the strip in the bar district too. Drinks are cheap on Sundays. The only down side is know to avoid the little blond bartender that goes by Kenny. He has caused a lot of problems with various patrons and seems to have some sort of Napoleon complex. I personally witnessed an altercation between him and a patron who was not causing any problem, and have heard stories from some of the guys I know there over the years. I think the issue might be over tipping, or in this case, not tipping him. Avoid him and go to the back bar as he does not work that position, safest deal though is to not interact with him at all.
YES! YES! YES!
I love this bar! During my stay in Dallas, I tried almost all the other bars, some were ok, some were awful, but finally, a bar in Dallas with OUTSTANDING drink prices. For some reason Dallas is one of those places that think they can overcharge for drinks. Now the main reason I went here is because I heard it was a great cruising place, and yes it is. I'm 29yo, and met guys here from 22yo to 40yo (even though there are older than that here) Sundays are busiest, but while I was in Dallas, I went maybe 15 times or more. I will be back next time I come through. The bartenders are friendly and beyond helpful and welcoming to newcomers! Thanks for finally showing me a great bar in Dallas!
A Drinker's Bar
The dozen or so times I've been to this bar, the only reason that struck me that people go - as a local bar - is to drink. The cruising/crowd is very uneven, and it seems to be well on it's way to being an "old timer" bar in some ways. Couple of visits on sundays - perhaps for TBRU (Texas Bear Round Up) - the beer bust atmosphere - outside - was great, lots of eye candy, and friendly feeling all the way around. The description of this bar is "tinged with leather" - it is one of the least "leather atmosphere" bars I've ever been in. Try on a spring/summer/fall Sunday, but unless with a group I would find a weeknight not worth the trip.
Unusual!
We were interested in this bar and it is unusual. A good mixture of all kinds of people that are into anything and everything.
