Movie Magic: Look to the Stars!

The New Texas Symphony Orchestra - the premier community orchestra of Dallas - celebrates the fantastic fans of science fiction, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, as well as the upcoming December release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, on Sunday, November 6, 3:00 p.m., at the Dallas City Performance Hall. Although many symphony orchestras have performed selections and even dedicated entire concerts based on the music from various Star Wars and Star Trek movies, the upcoming New Texas Symphony Orchestra concert is unique because of its primary emphasis on the fans themselves. "We are an all-volunteer player organization, so honoring the many legions of devoted fans who similarly volunteer their time and talents for their love of Star Trek, Star Wars, and other TV shows and movies was a natural fit for us," said NTSO conductor and artistic director Dr. Kathryn D. Brown. "Many of us are fans too, and we wanted to celebrate this wonderful music heard in television and film with those that truly keep that movie magic alive -- the fans." Premiering 50 years ago on November 10, 1966, the classic Star Trek episode "The Corbomite Maneuver," the first episode to be produced after the show's two pilots, is today considered one of the best episodes from the original series and is both studied and parodied for its distinctive "Star Trek" formulaic style. The entire second half of the "Look to the Stars!" concert features music heard in Star Trek television and cinema. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first standalone Star Wars film produced by Lucasfilm and features the highly anticipated return of the fan-favorite character, Darth Vader. The New Texas Symphony Orchestra will perform a new orchestral arrangement based on John Williams' soundtrack from last year's movie, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Movie Magic: Look to the Stars! will also feature performances from the two winners of NTSO's first ever Adult Amateur Aria and Concerto Concert, violinist Nancy Kikuchi and mezzo-soprano Eugeney Bailey.
