SUMMARY:
Beth Ryan and Michael Albee, the author/illustrator duo of the new children’s book “If a Frog had Wings” is receiving international recognition. The book which boasts key environmental concepts among stunning illustrations brings to life this story about a frog, his fate and the earth.
Hopson is a charismatic frog who appreciates his fellow amphibians and his life on Pebble Pond. When Hopson overhears Uncle Croaker speak at a frog town meeting that “frogs are disappearing”, he becomes concerned about his fate and the destiny of Pebble Pond. In his search for answers to the disappearing frogs, he tumbles into a world preserved by Nature Fairies. One particular fairy named Asiana helps him discover the fate of his earth, his amphibian relatives, and his purpose for being. Hopson discovers his self worth, and demonstrates to his family and friends on Pebble Pond how all creatures must contribute to a cleaner earth!
Six actors required:
Hopson (Lyric Baritone; A2 - F4)
Hopson is kind, compassionate, and sincere. He is humble and a good sport when others succeed, but feels inferior in regards to his strengths and accomplishments. Hopson is a daydreamer and has always dreamed of what it would be like if he had wings.
Asiana (Lyric Soprano; B3 - F5)
Like Disney’s Tinkerbell, Asiana is quick witted, feisty and sassy. She takes her role as leader of the Nature Fairies very seriously. Asiana makes her visible presence known only to those she likes, which in this case is Hopson.
Sally Salamander/Brenna/Fish (Soprano Belter: B3 - F5)*
Sally is a spunky Southern belle - bossy, animated, and dramatic.
Tad Toad/Kimba/Fish (Baritone Cavalier: B2 - G4)*
Tad is a Samoan Toad, confident, macho, and charming. Can be arrogant and self-absorbed.
Nate Newt/Pavan/Fish (Comic tenor: C3 - C5)*
Nate is small in size with an edgy fashion style. Sally's "Yes Man"
Uncle Croaker/Brody/Fish (Bass: A2 - E4)*
Uncle Croaker is a regal old toad and walks with a cane. His word is well respected.
*Fish are rough characters from the wrong side of the tracks.
Brenna, Kimba, Pavan, and Brody are the Nature Fairies who work to clean the environment.
