Go Oak Cliff is excited to present the 6th annual Blues, Bandits, & BBQ benefiting KNON Community Radio! The 2-day festival will be held Friday, November 13th and Saturday, November 14th in Oak Cliff, Texas!
30 teams will move into Kidd Springs Park on Friday, November 13th. The public is invited to come watch them light their fires at 5 p.m. We’ll have live music by Kirk Thurmond, a beer (and wine) garden, and a taco stand by El Padrino, or you’re welcome to bring a picnic dinner (sorry, you can’t bring alcohol into the park due to city and TABC rules!) All ages are welcome! The party starts at 5 and ends at 10 p.m.
On Saturday, we’ll jump start the day with the Dallas ‘Stache Dash 5K benefiting the Movember Foundation in support of their work to increase awareness and find cures for men’s health issues. Register online here: https://secure.getmeregistered.com/get_information.php?event_id=122631
After we wrap that up, we’ll run straight into a great music line up with in a nod to Oak Cliff’s history as the birthplace of legends like Stevie Ray Vaughn and T Bone Walker. We look forward to welcoming Jackie Don Loe Blues Revue featuring Lou Hampton and Bobby Patterson, Blue Lisa, and Paul Byrd Blues Band to the stage this year! We’ll also enjoy performances by SOTE and the Sunset High School Jazz Band as part of our community showcase.
The barbecue tasting and voting kicks off at 1:00 P.M. and lasts until 3:00 P.M. Attendees can purchase a wristband which includes their samples of the teams’ barbecue, but it also includes one coveted vote in the People’s Choice Competition! Wristbands are $20 and are available via Prekindle.com. There is a limited quantity of wristbands available.
Blues, Bandits, and BBQ is free for the public to attend. Vegetarians, as well as well-behaved pets and kids, are welcome! The only people who need to buy a ticket are the people who want to participate in the BBQ tasting and voting from 1 – 3 p.m. on Saturday. No outside booze are allowed, though, since it is a park and against TABC law. This is strictly enforced.
Barbecue award winners are announced around 4:30 P.M. with a trophy and check presentation on the stage.
It’s one of the best events in Oak Cliff! We’ll see you soon!
