For National Pride Month, CinéWilde is proud to screen “The Celluloid Closet” in 35mm! It just makes sense for Dallas’ premier LGBT film series to present a documentary exploring LGBT characters and issues throughout American cinema history.
Based on Vita Russo’s book of the same name, “The Celluloid Closet” cobbles together clips from queer (and queer-lite) films and interviews with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars to discuss the cinematic treatment of LGBT characters. From “A Wanderer from the West” (1927) to “Go Fish” (1994) the documentary looks at the sissy character, tackles the censorship of the Hollywood Production Code, outs coded gay characters, and ends with the changes made in the early 1990s.
Stay tuned to learn who our Community Partner is, though our standard line up of Education, Entertainment, and Engagement will be in full force.
After the film, join Queer Bomb Dallas — Dallas' local alternative Pride event — as they celebrate their second annual main event afterparty! There will be live drag and queer burlesque performances with Nikki Trash and friends as well as live music by CinéWilde veteran Dezi 5 — dirtiness, dancing, queer film, DJs and drink specials all night long. Believe us — you haven’t lived until you’ve QueerBombed!
