Mark your calendars now! The incredible spoken histories of Outrageous Oral, The Dallas Way’s exciting storytelling series recounting GLBT life in North Texas, returns to the Rose Room upstairs at S4, on Thursday, September 25. S4 is located at 3911 Cedar Springs Road in Dallas. Rose Room doors open at 6:30 pm. The program begins at 7:00.
Outrageous Oral’s storytellers are long-time members of the GLBT community who share their inspiring, humorous and emotional experiences with an audience determined that this rich history will not be forgotten.
Three remarkable presenters will tell their stories, moderated by a fourth person who is also a legend in the Dallas GLBT community, at this next Outrageous Oral, the 12th installment in the ongoing series.
Cece Cox, who has been an advocate on behalf of the LGBT and HIV communities for nearly 30 years, is the CEO of Resource Center Dallas. Before joining the Center, Cox practiced commercial law and provided pro bono legal services to individuals with HIV. Her activism and support of the community have included work at the Turtle Creek Chorale, Legal Hospice of Texas, Youth First Texas, the regional office of Lambda Legal and an appointment to both a City of Dallas board and task force.
For more than 30 years, the center of the Dallas GLBT community has been the intrepid, the inimitable, the incredible Lory Masters. Name something notable to the community –Human Rights Campaign, Women’s Chorus of Dallas, the Oasis, Resource Center Dallas, the Cathedral of Hope, Dykes on Bikes, Black Tie Dinner, Dallas Pride Parade, Oak Lawn Community Services and on and on and on – and what’s the common thread among them all? It’s Lory Masters. And in the midst of all this volunteer championship, her company, Master Realtors, has sold so much property to members of the GLBT community that an entire slice of Dallas is still known as Loryland.
Emma Colquitt is President of Cardiac Dynamics, a mobile cardiovascular lab specializing in diagnostic procedures such as echocardiography, stress echo, and vascular studies.
Serving as master of ceremonies for this installment of Outrageous Oral will be Dallas legend Dee Pennington. The CEO of the Dallas Credit Union for the last 34 years, Pennington has consistently been at the center of GLBT life in Dallas. She started and hosts a monthly women’s social event called Chick Happy Hour which is celebrating its 12th year. Dee uses her vast email list to make sure DFW lesbians are aware of and get connected to events and organizations local and nationwide.
There is no charge to attend The Dallas Way’s Outrageous Oral events. Donations are appreciated to support important collections and archives housed at the University of North Texas in Denton. Each Outrageous Oral presentation is video-taped and archived in The Dallas Way collection at UNT. Additional oral and written histories of people important to GLBT history in North Texas are also included in that collection. Materials are being digitized to allow world-wide access to this significant history.
