Demanding Marriage Equality Should Not Be A Crime! ~ A Fundraising Dinner
Saturday Feb 23, 2013 6:00PM-9:00PM
in Dallas
When Major and Beau Jiminez decided to tie the knot, they wanted to take a stand for marriage equality. So they went to the Dallas Record's Building marriage license counter and asked for a marriage license. The license was never granted and the two went to jail after they refused to leave without their license. A subsequent protest a month later resulted in Major being arrested again for refusing to leave without a marriage license. Beau's case has been heard by the judge, and his case is being dismissed since he completed 40 hours of community service, during which time he raised $2157.00 for YouthFirst Texas. Major's two cases, however, have not yet been heard and thus far, no court date has been set.
Because of the two arrests for civil disobedience, Major is facing possible fines of $4000.00 and up to one year in jail. The purpose of this fundraising dinner is to help offset any fines that may be imposed by the Court. However, if the fines are dismissed, all money raised from the event will benefit the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center (DARCC).
Tickets for the event will be limited to 100 people and cost $40.00 per person. This includes chef-prepared appetizers, entree, and dessert. A cash bar for beer and wine will be available. Dinner options are chicken, beef, or vegetarian and choice can be made when you register to attend the event.
The keynote address will be delivered by the Dallas Voice's Person of the Year, C.D. Kirven.
Black & Blue Sponsorship packages are available and benefits include a reserved table for 8, and various levels of recognition in promotional material and at the event. Sponsorship levels are $500.00 or $1000.00.
Please contact one of the hosts if you would like to sponsor the event or purchase tickets to attend!
We hope to see you there!
